Step-by-Step Guide

Now that you have all the materials and tools ready, let’s get started with the building process. Follow these steps to make your own classic Adirondack chair:

1. Cut the wood pieces according to the dimensions in the plan.

You will need 1×4, 1×6, and 2×4 boards for the frame, seat, back, and arms of the chair.

2. Drill pocket holes in the ends of the seat slats and the back slats.

Attach them to the seat support and the back support with 1 1/4-inch pocket screws and wood glue.

3. Attach the front legs to the seat support with 2 1/2-inch screws and wood glue.

Attach the back legs to the back support with 2 1/2-inch screws and wood glue.

4. Connect the front legs and the back legs

With the front apron and the back apron using 2 1/2 inch screws and wood glue.

5. Attach the arm supports to the front legs and the back legs with 2 1/2 inch screws and wood glue.

Make sure they are level and flush with the top of the legs.

6. Attach the arms to the arm supports with 2 1/2-inch screws and wood glue.

Make sure they overhang equally on both sides of the chair.

7. Sand all the edges and surfaces of the chair with 120-grit sandpaper.

Apply a coat of primer and let it dry. Then apply two coats of paint in your desired color. Let it dry completely before using.
