Harvesting sunflower seeds is a rewarding process that allows you to enjoy the fruits of your labor and save seeds for future planting, create organic mulch, or process seeds for eating or selling.

But, how exactly do you harvest the seeds from sunflowers?

Answer: Wait until the sunflower’s head has fully matured and the back of the flower has turned brown. Cut the head from the stem and hang it upside down in a cool, dry place to allow the seeds to dry. Once dried, gently rub or shake the seeds out of the head and store them in a dry, airtight container.
