Are you stressing out because you don’t know the first thing about how to care for mini palms (and yours aren’t growing well?)? No worries! You’re not the only one.
We noticed a lot of folks struggling with their mini palm trees, so we put together this complete guide to help you grow your indoor palm trees more successfully.
You don’t need to be an expert in gardening skills for growing and caring for this plant. Yet, there are some basic requirements for each palm tree, irrespective of its type or species.
So, let’s get straight into it below!
How To Care For Mini Palms

Mini Palms are easy to grow plants that do not require professional gardening skills. If you provide the essential supplies and care, like adequate soil, proper light, good drainage, and regular pruning, they can thrive for even more years than you would imagine.
Before you get started with rescuing your mini palms, there are a few supplies needed for proper mini palm tree care:
- Water supply
- Well-drained but moist soil
- 50-degrees Fahrenheit temperature or higher
- Sun exposure with partial or full shade
- Suitable fertilizer according to your specific sort of mini palm
Choose The Right Soil
You can plant mini palms in any soil type as these are not picky in this regard. But it is recommended to use soil that is porous, moist, and well-drained.
As the plant can’t be repotted in many cases, you have to choose suitable soil wisely. It will affect your plant growth to a great extent as you might be lacking here.
Water Regularly

You have to water mini palms more frequently as compared to other plants. In the first week of planting, water your palm tree every day. In the second week, every other day. Afterward, 2 to 3 times every week.
But make sure not to overwater them as it will lead to rot roots and stems. To avoid this problem, you can use a pot with a drain hole at its bottom.

Fertilize
Caring for miniature palm trees doesn’t require the use of fertilizer. But, you can boost its growth if a suitable feed is used.
If you are going to do so, you should use organic fertilizer instead of synthetic one. It is because synthetic fertilizers do more harm to your plant than good.
Furthermore, you must provide fertilizer in the growing stage of the plant to be more effective. Adding nutrients while it’s in a dormant phase this winter won’t help it a bit.
Protect It From Pests
Mini palm trees are usually vulnerable to mealy bugs, red spider mites, and other scale insects. Pretty much the norm for many houseplants.
To prevent this, you should keep an eye out on all of your plants and move your plants away from other infected plants. In case of infestation, you can use an insecticidal solution, diluted soap, and water, a spray with neem oil, or other easy organic pest control methods.
Even more, if you ever notice wilting or yellow leaves, don’t take it lightly. If it’s not a sign of your mini palm lacking nutrients, it may be an early sign of infestation.
Provide Proper Lighting
A reason why mini palm trees are easy to grow indoors is they can thrive well in low light conditions. They will get dry if you put them in a place where they are in direct sunlight.
So, you have to keep them in the shade with a little bit of sunlight. That makes them perfect for sitting in corners (which is also great for larger mini palms because they take up so much room).
Pro Tips For Mini Palms Growth

Pruning For Success
While pruning, take care as it is a sensitive plant and has thin stems and leaves. Thus, you should use a sharp pruner that can cut the brown tips on the first attempt. You can get rid of dead, yellow, and spotted leaves by pruning. Also, the healthy parts receive a good nutritional supply in this way.
Don’t Ignore These Signs Your Mini Palms Are Showing
If you noticed scorched, yellow, or brown leaves, it could be a symptom of over-fertilization. It can also be a result of keeping your plant in an exceedingly cold place. Yellow fronds show that it is not getting much oxygen or much water in its roots. All these signs need a solution as early as possible.
Provide Them the Right Living Space
If you want to grow your mini palms quickly and more efficiently, you have to provide suitable living space and keen attention.
Most palm plants have heightened lengths, so you should ask about their matured height before buying one. So, you can plant them accordingly in a big container and broader space.

Hi Jim and Tina! Thanks for reading!
To answer your question, you probably don’t actually need a humidifier, based on the climate where you live. Your mini palms should get plenty of humidity, just make sure that you’re misting them with a spray bottle regularly!
